Investigators said the bridge correctly verified notarized state roots and Merkle proofs but failed to confirm whether source-chain amounts actually backed payouts. The attacker reportedly spent about $10 in VRSC fees to trigger withdrawals worth millions. Researchers stressed the breach was not caused by compromised keys or broken cryptography.
